2019 marked the 20th year since Stitch and Chatter began. They started meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Sevierville with 6 members. In 2003 the group moved to the My People Senior Activity Center on Main St. with the move, the membership greatly increased and this year we have about 25 contributors. Stitch and Chatter meets every Wednesday from 10-11:30 am. We have varied abilities in knitting and crocheting and enjoy the fellowship and learning from each other. We welcome anyone to join us. Donations of yarn are always appreciated.
In 2019 we made and donated 766 items! 200 adult hats, 120 children hats, 99 scarves, 30 baby and preemie hats, 121 baby blankets, 133 lapghans and afghans, 9 shawls, 41 pet blankets, 33 misc. items including cat toys and baby booties.
Since this group began 20 years ago the running total for items donated is 2304 afghans, 1274 baby blankets, 2540 hats, 955 scarves, and over 1000 misc. items.
Recipients this year were Sevierville Helping Hands (200 hats and many scarves to the homeless in Sevierville and Knoxville), Sevier County Humane Society, UT Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, LeConte Medical Center, Dialysis Clinic Inc., Brookdale Rehab, Sevier County rehab, Sunset Gap Community Center, King Family Library Mitten Tree, and the DAV for veterans.
