2024 marked the 25th year since Stitch and Chatter began. They started meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Sevierville with 6 members. In 2003 the group moved to the My People Senior Activity Center on Main St. with the move, the membership greatly increased and this year we have about 25 contributors. Stitch and Chatter meets every Wednesday from 10-11:30 am. We have varied abilities in knitting and crocheting and enjoy the fellowship and learning from each other. We welcome anyone to join us. Donations of yarn are always appreciated.
Since this group began over 25 years ago the running total for items donated is 2729 afghans, 1424 baby blankets, 3861hats,1289 scarves, and over 1673 misc. items. Grand total as of January 1, 2024 is about 10,976 items
Recipients for 2023 were:
23 full size Afghans, 1 large shawl to the Dialysis Center
First Baptist Church in Sevierville was given 34 baby Afghans, 20 hats, 31 baby caps, 3 baby bibs, 10 pairs of booties, and misc. items for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
LeConte Birthing Center received 36 baby Afghans, 7 bibs, 7 pairs of booties, and 15 baby caps.
Smoky Mountain Rehab in Pigeon Forge received 77 Lapghans, and 7 shawls.
King Family Library Mitten Tree for the Boys and Girls Club received 50 hats, 28 scarves, 19 pairs of mittens, and 4 ear warmers.
Disabled American Veterans received 215 hats. DAV graciously donated the yarn for us to make the hats.
Sunset Gap received 172 hats, 2 pairs of mittens, 55 scarves, 6 ear warmers, and 7 pairs of socks.
